Sunday Morning Musings

My brain is already wanting to think it terms of diet breakfast. I had to give myself a swift kick when I caught myself thinking things like "no grits, no cheese, no this, no that." It's hard to retrain our brains. In the meantime, Randy has taken over (bless his heart) and is in the kitchen making egg mcmuffins with his homemade Canadian bacon. The good things about this:  Egglands Best eggs are better than regular, English muffins have fewer calories than two slices of wheat bread, Canadian bacon is lower in fat than bacon, and Randy's making it.

Oh, wait! Put ont he brakes here. Randy just informed me he's frying bacon.  However, it's his homemade bacon that has none of the nasty additives of store bought bacon so I'll take that as a positive.

After breakfast, we'll go for a walk. Then I'll take measurements, have a hearty laugh at my own expense, and post it for the world (or at least my family and friends) to see.

What a lovely start to the day.

  1. Congratulations on your new beginning. While I have not had to lose as much weight as you, I have had to really work at maintaining my optimal weight. But what works in Tampa, Florida, does not work in Charleston, Vermont, where it is rainy and cold. So glad I don't have to deal with the temptation of southern cooking. Three of the best decisions I made: try a triathlon (I've now done 4 of them), journal my food intake AND eat more proteins and less carbs. There will be lots of payoffs for your new lifestyle of exercise (I was 47 when I did my first tri) - one of the biggest is that you will be better able to handle stress. In upcoming months, if you wrestle with the idea of hiring a trainer. DO IT! Best money I've invested in for myself. You go girl! I can't wait to hear about your progress and your new book!

  2. You CAN eat grits, mommy, Cooking Light taught us that ;) We just can't load it down with salt and too much fatty cheese. PS: Love the new font you used on the header! So you.

  3. Tracey, it's so good to know you KNOW about the temptation of Southen fare. Oh my. Fried everything! Gumbo! Jambalaya! Cornbread and butter! Great cooks live around here and everyone loves to share. For now, Kelsey is my trainer! She's inspired me to do this and is my #1 encourager and mentor. Love that girl! 4. Love you, Kelz! I loved the Cooking Light grits recipe you made for us and that's what I'm sticking to now. I'm going to make it with fat free cream cheese and see how it is. Yummy!
